Loan Originator Training – Have You Done Yours Yet?

Category: Lending
By Michael Christians    No Comments

Section 1026.36(f)(3)(iii) of Regulation Z requires credit unions to provide their loan originators with periodic training covering Federal and State law requirements that apply to the individual originator’s loan origination activities. What training will satisfy this requirement?

The rule is not specific about how much or what type of training is enough; however, the commentary to the rule provides a safe harbor. The commentary indicates that training approved by the NMLS to meet the continuing education requirements under the SAFE Act may also be used to satisfy the training requirements of Regulation Z.

PolicyWorks has partnered with the Credit Union National Association (“CUNA”) to offer an NMLS approved comprehensive loan originator course.

8 Hour SAFE Comprehensive Mortgage Loan Originator Course (NMLS #1405021)

This course covers:

  • Regulation Z (Truth-in-Lending)
  • Regulation X (RESPA)
  • Regulation B (Equal Credit Opportunity Act)
  • Fair Housing Act
  • Regulation C (Home Mortgage Disclosure Act)
  • Adjustable Rate Mortgages
  • Federal Housing Administration (FHA) and Veterans Administration (VA) loan programs
  • Reading and Understanding Credit Reports & Scores / Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)

CUNA is offering this training solution in conjunction with its Lending Compliance School in August. The session will be held as a pre-conference workshop at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas, Nevada on Sunday, August 10th. For additional information regarding the course, including pricing, please contact Tracy Blaske, CUNA’s Director of Compliance Education at 608-231-4030 or tblaske@cuna.coop.
